People often ask me WHY I started The Business Clubhouse. Well, there’s two reasons.
Isolation is a horrible thing. As a kid, I was the one picked last for everything. The irony of then becoming a professional sports coach is not lost on me. That feeling of being left out, being different made me feel very alone, even in a crowded room. My best selling book Hitting the Wall shares the journey of much of the change I went through.
When I started my business, I felt the same. Everyone seemed to be doing better than me, everyone was two steps ahead, was dressed smarter, had a faster car, was more confident.
In the end I tried to fit in by building something everyone else thought I should build. I was chasing other people’s version of success. The loneliness led to depression, a failed marriage and a failed business. That failure meant sleeping in my car and almost the relationship with my only child.
When I set up The Business Clubhouse, I wanted to prevent other people feeling that sense of isolation and loneliness. I wanted to give them the permission to go after their own version of success, on their terms.
We all want to be heard, listened to and noticed. We all want to know there is someone rooting for us. This is what we’re about.
I don’t want people to feel they have nowhere to go, no one to turn to. For many of our members it’s a psychologically safe space to be themselves, to be honest, to fully relax and be truly open.
This creates bonds and friendships through that trust and the support means that real magic happens
My second reason is that I truly believe in the power of coaching. Of having people in your life that can challenge your thinking and your perspective of the world. I believe, vehemently, that this shouldn’t be exclusive. We’re not free. There’s no value in free and what we have to offer has immense value. It is incredibly affordable though.
If you’re the sort of person who wants to help others whilst being helped, is prepared to contribute, is open minded and happy to get stuck in and practice, you are most definitely in the right place. We cost as little as a (good) bottle of wine a month and less than a ticket to a football match.
I’m proud of the successes our members have had – I want to help more people have more success and to shout about it.

Our members work hard but with balance. They pick the kids up from school and go to sports days. They have date nights. They go on holidays.
They pay themselves each month and have the money for their tax bill. They play golf (often with me, but that’s not compulsory!), stay fit and take salsa dancing classes (never with me).
